Woodland is in a town located in Clark and Cowlitz Counties. However, most of its 5500 residents live in Cowlitz County. The town was named by its first merchant and postmaster for its wooded setting.

Woodland has about 1,965 households and 1,398 families. A little over 40 percent of the households have children under the age of 18. Woodland is also home to the longest running civic community festival in Washington, Planter’s Day. This day is dedicating to celebrating the completed construction of dikes along the Lewis and Columbia Rivers, which prevent the annual flooding in the Woodland area.
